Nikenjaya-Mochi is a traditional soybean mochi made with strained bean paste wrapped in a thin mochi skin and sprinkled with soybean flour.
Kadoya uses a method of making raw mochi that has been passed down from generation to generation, which involves soaking sticky rice in water, steaming it, and then using a mortar to fully coat it.
The combination of smooth raw mochi, lightly sweetened strained bean paste, and freshly ground fragrant soybean flour gives it a nostalgic feel.

Founded in the Tensho era (1575). This is the year in which the Battle of Nagashino occurred between the Oda-Tokugawa allied forces and the Takeda forces in Mikawa Province.
Nikenchaya" is the name of the town, and derives from the fact that two teahouses, Kakunoya and Minatoya, were built on the banks of the Setagawa River, which runs through the center of Ise, and from which our mochi came to be called "Nikenjaya-Mochi." The name "Nikenchaya" is also said to be derived from the name of the town.

The Seta River is a short river, about 7 km long, but from the Edo period to the early Showa period, it was the main artery that supported Ise, which was full of pilgrims.
Nikenjaya used to be a busy port town where visitors to the shrine arrived by boat after crossing Ise Bay and coming up the Setagawa River.
Many travelers must have filled their stomachs with Nikenjaya-Mochi, excited to start their journey.

This is a teahouse mochi, so when you travel, enjoy the freshly made taste while sipping Ise GreenTea on the verandah of the main store.
We also have bamboo skin wrappers to take home.
