What is “Sobun no Bamboo Light”?

``Sobun no Bamboo Lighting'' is a charming autumn event held at the Mie Prefectural Cultural Center in TsuCity, Mie Prefecture, where you can enjoy the magical bamboo lights. Bamboo lights create a dream-like beauty that illuminates autumn nights, and in recent years, many people have become attracted to this event.

This year's theme is "Wings of Imagination" - Children of the beautiful light of the earth.

This event will be held for the 7th time in 2023. This year's theme is "Wings of Imagination."

The earth in the universe (planet) is expressed, a world without smiles and conflict. It expresses divinity.

canaarea is a company that operates under the philosophy of ``Cutting bamboo from dilapidated bamboo forests and breathing life into them again as bamboo lights. Creating a prosperous society through bamboo lights, which have the power to connect people and places.'' (Kanaeria) is producing and directing.

Please enjoy the world view of Kohei Kawabuchi, a bamboo light artist and director who is active at canaarea.

The coronavirus pandemic is coming to an end, and this year's colors are becoming more vibrant. There are several bamboo lights with cute faces, so be sure to look for them. Mr. Kawabuchi said that he has included things that will make you smile when you look at them.

What is the date and time for “Sobun no Takeakari”?

“Sobun no Takeakari” in 2023 will be held on the following dates.

November 9th (Thursday) to November 12th (Sunday), 2023

November 14th (Tuesday) to November 19th (Sunday), 2023

November 21st (Tuesday) to November 26th (Sunday), 2023

The illumination will be held from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, and viewing is free and the event will be held even if it rains. Please note that the museum is closed on Mondays (11/13 and 11/20) when visiting.

Where can I see the location?

The exhibition venue will be the ``Festival Plaza,'' which is the same as in previous years, and will be the central plaza of Soubun (Mie Prefectural Cultural Center). You can enjoy the bamboo lights from various perspectives, including not only from the front but also from the second floor corridor.

What does "Soubun" mean? What is Mie Prefectural Cultural Center?

Some people may say "Sobun" in one word and wonder "Where?". Also, there seem to be some people who say "Kenbun". ``Sobun'' is an abbreviation for Mie Prefectural Cultural Center, and it is a place where various facilities are gathered. The building is divided into three major parts. These are the Cultural Hall building (displayed in blue) containing the large hall, the Lifelong Learning Center building (displayed in yellow-green) containing the prefectural library, and the Gender Equality Center (Frente Mie) building (displayed in orange).

The central plaza surrounded by the buildings is divided into two parts: ``Festival Square'' and ``Knowledge Square.''

The main venue for Bamboo Akari will be the festival plaza. This is a large square next to the Cultural Center.

In addition, the Knowledge Plaza will be located in the courtyard on the Frente Mie and Lifelong Learning Center side. During this event period, Sobun Purple Light Up 2023 will be held as a related event. In addition, the Mie Prefectural Museum (MieMu) is located next door across the road.

What is the recommended way to look at it?

It can be crowded on weekends, so we recommend visiting on weekdays. Especially for those who want to take photos, I think there are moments when you can take photos without the surroundings being reflected.

Entrance front

First, go to the front stairs of the main entrance. The beauty of the geometric objects in front of you will amaze you and make you want to take a photo here. This year is a whirlpool. It expresses the worldview of Japan's Jomon period. It is said that the Jomon period was a time when there was no conflict for a long time, which is rare in the world, and that the world view has been lowered.

Main

If you go up the front stairs, you will reach the festival plaza. You will be overwhelmed by the magnificent bamboo lighted space. The three main bamboo lights at the front are said to represent the three ancestral gods, including Amaterasu Omikami. The sphere is an expression of the earth in the universe (planet). This year has a very colorful impression.

From the 2nd floor corridor deck

The most recommended point is the view from the second-floor corridor, which is located at the top of the spiral staircase between Festival Plaza and Knowledge Plaza. The view from the front is especially beautiful with the front staircase objects included.

Reflections from puddles, glass surfaces, and objects are also great spots to shoot at.

Nowadays, ordinary everyday scenes such as night views of factories, which were not established as tourist resources in the past, have become tourist resources.Although it is difficult to take good photos of nearby flower spots, shrines and temples, railways, and city scenes, Mie I would like to discover and disseminate the daily scenes of people in the prefecture as resources.
