This ancient temple was founded by the monk Gyoki during the reign of Emperor Shomu and is also known as a famous place for flowers.
The plaque on the main gate is said to be the handwriting of Kobo Daishi, and the principal image, the Senju Kannon, was created in the early Kamakura period and has been designated as a national important cultural property, and is said to have miraculous powers for longevity, safety at sea, and further education.
It is a famous spot for hydrangeas and wisteria, and also has a youth hostel.
