Masashi Asada is a photographer who is also the original creator of the movie "Asada Family!" The second club activity of the “Mie Travel Camera Club” manager is recommended for summer vacation! Enjoy Shima activities at "UmiHozuki" and "Shima Nature School" and glamping experience at "Grandome Ise Kashiwajima" for the whole family! ! In this first part of the article, we introduce model courses for Shima activities that children can experience together, such as playing on the shore, horse UmiHozuki, and sea kayaking at Shima Nature School! First, start at the beach experience facility “UmiHozuki” in Hamajima ShimaCity! This is a facility where you can learn and experience the marine culture and fishing industry that has been passed down in Shima.

Seaside experience facility “UmiHozuki”

 

"Wanpaku Iso" where you can interact with sea creatures

 

"Wanpaku Iso" is a shallow rock that is close to the natural sea, with ebbs and flows and tide pools. There are two types of rocky shores with different water depths, and even small children can safely play on the rocky shores, which are up to 40cm deep and allow you to catch your prey with your bare hands from the sandy beach to the middle! In addition, you can use box glasses to observe the rocky shore at a depth of 60 cm, which is fun for both children and adults!

Wanpaku Iso is covered, so you can play safely even on rainy or sunny days.

 

Masashi Asada's son Asahi chases a fish that swims quickly on the shallow shore and catches it with a ``tamo net''! That's a nice smile★

*Top nets for catching fish and box glasses for observing the water can be rented within the facility (buoys, box glasses, string nets, etc. cannot be brought in).

 

Wanpaku Island is home to many kinds of creatures, including fish, shellfish, and starfish. See, touch, catch... Wanpaku Iso is packed with experiences that you can't have in everyday life♪

By the way, the facility also has changing rooms and hot showers. If you have a change of clothes ready, you won't have to worry about getting wet.

There is a covered resting space around Wanpaku Iso. Masashi Asada and his family also took a short break to hydrate themselves (you can bring snacks, tea, and juice into the facility, but you cannot bring bento lunches or alcoholic beverages into the facility).

 

Horse mackerel fishing experience at a naughty beach

 

Next, try horse mackerel fishing at Naughty Rock! Fishing tickets can be purchased at the facility entrance. Hand in your ticket at the reception desk at Wanpaku Isouchi and receive your fishing gear.

Drop the fishing line into the enclosure where the horse mackerel swim.

Masashi Asada: ``I just wanted to try fishing with my family.It's great because you can rent a set of fishing equipment and start enjoying it right away!''

 

Asahi-kun is anxiously waiting for the horse mackerel to catch.

Wait a few minutes...

 

I caught it! ! Asahi's first fishing experience was a great success.

Asahi-kun: “(It’s a little scary, but) Hey! You caught it!”

The horse mackerel you catch can be fried and eaten within the facility, or dried and taken home.

*Reservations are required for horse mackerel fishing. You can catch up to 2 fish for 20 minutes for 1,000 yen per person.

 

Shima's local cuisine - Tekone sushi making experience

 

Next, try your hand at making tekone sushi. Start by cutting the bonito under the careful guidance of the cooking staff!

Masashi Asada: “Come to think of it... why is your name called [Tekone]?”
Cooking staff: ``It's said that this is because fishermen would eat the fish they caught on their boats by dipping it in sauce and kneading it with rice and their hands!''

I see. The name comes from the fact that fishermen kneaded it by hand.

Asahi, who is in the first grade of elementary school, made his debut with a child's knife at the age of two, but this is almost the first time he has ever used a real knife. Slowly and carefully cut the bonito into just the right thickness.

Once the bonito is cut, soak it in the sauce and try making kinshi tamago. Break the eggs, beat them, and bake.

 

Asahi quickly got the hang of it after listening to the cooking staff's explanation. Beautiful yellow kinshi tamago was baked!

 

It's a bit difficult to cut the tamago thinly, so my dad helps me out a little. Working together as a father and son is a valuable experience!

 

The bonito marinated in the sauce, the tamago, and condiments such as seaweed and perilla are arranged in order.

 

It was completed!

Masashi Asada: “This is fun! Now that I’ve learned how to make it, let’s make Tekone Sushi at home!”

 

Tekone sushi, fried horse mackerel, sea lettuce miso soup that comes with each bucket, and seafood.

Wakana Asada: ``My son and I don't usually eat raw fish because we don't like it, but this is delicious! We can't eat it all the time.''

 

*Reservations are required for making Tekone sushi. Miso soup with mini-Oke/Aosa (1 serving) is 1,200 yen, Regular Oke (4 to 5 servings) is 4,500 Yen, Large Oke (6 to 7 servings) is 6,600 Yen (regular miso soup comes with 4 servings, and large tub comes with 6 servings). Sea kayaking at Shima Nature School

 

After driving for about 40 minutes from UmiHozuki, we arrived at Shima Nature School in Daio Town. This facility allows you to enjoy kayaking, cycling, and craft experiences.

This time we tried kayaking! After completing the formalities at the Shima Nature School office, we moved to the shore where the kayaks were installed.

 

There is a changing room at the facility, so change into clothes you don't mind getting wet.
After choosing your favorite color kayak, life jacket, and shoes, you will receive instructions on how to operate the kayak. Even first-timers can experience it with confidence!

 

This time, we started our kayaking experience aiming for a deserted island a little far away! I'm excited to see what kind of great adventure awaits me! Throb!

 

While feeling the sea breeze, we move forward on the sea. It's my first time using a sea kayak, but once you ride it for a while, you'll get used to the controls!

 

Arrived at a deserted island! It seems to be an island called Usagiyamajima. Raise your kayak to the beach and start exploring! What awaits the father and son on the deserted island? ?

 

Observe the ocean using box glasses that can be borrowed from Shima Nature School. You can clearly see the shellfish and fish at your feet. Asahi-kun is engrossed in looking into the ocean. Maybe you'll find a great treasure!

The kayaking staff found a sea urchin! Asahi-kun excitedly tried putting a sea urchin on his palm.

*It is prohibited to take home or eat sea creatures. After observing, let's return it to the sea!

 

We will take a short break on the deserted island and return to the starting point.

 

Asahi-kun: “I’m a little tired, but I wanted to go on more adventures.”

 

Reservations are required for the experience. The 1.5-hour course costs 4,500 yen for junior high school students and above, and 3,500 yen for elementary school students and below. The 3-hour course costs 6,500 yen for junior high school students and above, and 5,000 yen for elementary school students and below.

It consists of four experience facilities: ``Wanpaku Iso'', ``Furusato Ajibanya'', ``Mugen-tei'', and ``Himono Sobo'', and can accommodate up to 100 people, making it ideal for elementary school and junior high school students' school trips and field trips. . ■"Wanpaku Iso"■ The shallow shore experience facility has ebbs and flows of the tide, and there is a wide expanse of rocky shore that resembles a real ocean with tidal pools. The shallow rocky shore (40cm deep), where you can touch the fish with your bare hands, is barrier-free so even small children and people in wheelchairs can play. There are sea creatures such as filefish and porgies inside. Slightly larger fish such as dochi sharks (small, docile sharks) and stingrays swim in the deep rocky shore (depth of 60cm), making it fun for everyone from upper elementary school students to adults. Some of the fiercest people spend the entire summer vacation enjoying the never-ending fun. ! ■``Himono Sobo''■ In the seafood processing experience, you can cut fish and make dried fish. Dried fish usually attract insects when dried outside, but we have a far-infrared dryer (patented) that allows us to produce delicious dried fish hygienically and in a short time (about 1 hour). Once completed, you can vacuum pack it and take it home.
