Above Manjuji Temple, this park is paved with stones and planted with trees on the site of the castle of Fukuchi Iyo no kami, which is connected to the Matsuo family. A monument to Basho's birth was erected in the park to mark the 200th anniversary of his death, reminding us of the haiku master's past.

Inside the park there is a monument with the haiku ``Crying for my hometown and my umbilical cord.''
