The seafood hotpot at ``Yamatoya'', a restaurant popular for its seasonal local cuisine prepared by the owner who knows everything about local ingredients, is based on a soup stock of bonito and kelp, with the addition of KumanoJidori(TheLocalBrandChicken) bones roasted over high heat. It brings out the flavor. By adding fresh fish, shellfish, and meat caught in the Kumano Sea, the flavor of the ingredients is added to the soup stock, creating a unique flavor. The aroma of dashi soup permeates the inside of the store.

04 Recommended for a side meal! "Curry Ramen"

The fourth gourmet dish recommended by Kumano locals is ``Curry Ramen''.

It's not "curry ramen" but "curry ramen" (lol)

You can eat this curry ramen at Hokusho, which opened in 2007. This is a popular restaurant that sells not only ramen but also local fish, and on Saturdays and Sundays, it's packed with local fishermen and people touring!

The ``Sashimi Set Meal,'' where you can enjoy fresh sashimi, and the ``Yakibuta Ramen,'' which has thick meat similar to braised meat, are popular, but ``Curry Ramen'' accounts for about 70% of daily orders. ~Noodle.” Even people who order something different the first time will always end up ordering curry ramen the second time because of the high rate of orders for curry ramen among the customers around them.

*Image shows "Curry Ramen Set" 1,000 yen (tax included)

The soup is tonkotsu based like other ramen. Add curry powder and onions to thicken it, then add Chinese noodles and it's done. The ingredients are very simple: pork and green onions. I can't get enough of the melty curry entwined with the thin Chinese noodles.

This set also comes with 2 pieces of sushi. The ingredients will change depending on the stocking situation that day, so you can look forward to it until it arrives at the store. This menu is perfect for those who want to eat some fish when they come to Kumano.

The curry ramen soup is so delicious that some customers order rice and eat it mixed with the soup.

The set alone is quite filling, but if you want more, we recommend ordering rice.

08We are particular about materials and manufacturing methods! "Dried fish"

The eighth gourmet dish recommended by Kumano locals is ``dried fish.''

KumanoCity in Mie Prefecture faces the Kumano Sea and has a thriving fishing industry, but the climate is also warm and suitable for making dried fish!

Hamamine Shoten, which has been operating in KumanoCity, Mie Prefecture for over 50 years, sells carefully selected seasonal ingredients that are dried using traditional manufacturing methods passed down from its predecessors. .

At Hamamine Shoten's directly managed store, you can purchase dried fish as souvenirs!

We recommend the ``Aji no Hiraki'' (2 pieces: from 648 yen including tax), which is made with carefully selected ingredients caught in season and seasoned with salt. This popular dish has the best fat and allows you to fully enjoy the flavor and sweetness of the meat.

Other recommended items are the most popular "Marlin Steak" (1,188 yen including tax for 100g)

This dish is made by using only the stomach part of the swordfish, marinated in tamari soy sauce, and then dried. It has no bones and the meat is soft, so it has been a long-selling product since it first went on sale!

There are also various other dried fish (the photo is just an example. Top left: dried natural Buritamari, top right: Kamasuhiraki, bottom: Nodoguro Hiraki). You can also purchase it online, so if you can't go to the store, give it a try!

In recent years, this scene has become less visible due to poor saury fishing, but in the winter, the sight of saury dried whole on the beach was a local feature.

I hope I can see this scenery again here!
