However, this species is a poisonous plant, and the leaves are decoctioned and used as an insecticide.

It is said that the name Acebia sebi (horse drunkenness tree) comes from the fact that horses eat the leaves and are poisoned by the poison, causing them to become dizzy as if they were drunk.

It is also planted around KomonoTown Hall, and its small white flowers bloom from mid-April to early May. It is planted in the shrubbery along National Route 306 at the east entrance.
