It is one of the Tokoku Bugyo (branch offices of the Shogunate) established by the Shogunate in Ise Province during the Edo period (1635). He guarded IseJingu, supervised the transfer of the shrine, controlled the shogunate territory of Ise Province, and monitored Toba Port. Ooka Echizen no kami Tatasuke served as the 18th magistrate in this area for four years from 1712 to 1716.
In May 2005, the Yamada Magistrate's Office Memorial Hall opened.
