As we approach summer, we have entered the humid rainy season, but there are some scenery that can be enjoyed at night this time of year. Yes, fireflies are now rare and rarely seen in cities! At Nabananosato you can safely enjoy watching fireflies from the paved walkway.

There is a sign just after entering Nabananosato, so check here to see where the fireflies appear. The main points are behind Café La Terrace, the stream near Sato no Yu, and the stream in the hydrangea/flower garden.

First, we headed to the hydrangea and flower garden at the far end. The day of the interview was June 9th, the day of the strawberry moon (the smallest full moon this year), and the moonlight was beautiful. Taking photos of flowers in the night light was fun and ended up taking up more time than I had planned.

On the way to the hydrangea/flower garden, there were many types of hydrangea that I had never seen before! There were many people who stopped and admired it. The hydrangeas illuminated by orange light bulbs look different in color than during the day.

I arrived at the hydrangea/flower garden, so I took some photos right away. On the day I went, it was sunny and warm from noon, so I was able to enjoy watching fireflies comfortably even at night. The photo was taken with hydrangeas.

The fireflies moved irregularly, and when they came close to me, I couldn't help but exclaim, "Oh!" It's a refreshing experience to be able to see fireflies up close, something you don't normally see when you live in the city.

Next, we moved to the stream near Sato no Yu. It's a bit disappointing that there wasn't much light from the fireflies here at the time I went. However, I heard that depending on the time of day, there may be a lot of them. It's open until 10 p.m. for a limited time, so it's a good idea to take a leisurely stroll through Nabananosato while waiting. By the way, while I was waiting, I ate some soft-serve ice cream from the limited-time shop LeTAO that I bought at the shop.

And finally to the back of Café La Terrace. Although it was past 9pm, this was the spot where the most fireflies were flying.

The people who came were sitting quietly and leisurely watching the fireflies. The fireflies were very active and I was able to capture beautiful trails of light as you can see in the photo!

I want to see fireflies that are hard to see in the city! It is recommended for anyone who wants. I think families with young children who have never seen fireflies before can enjoy it together with peace of mind, so please come visit Nabananosato.

*This photo of fireflies was taken using a method called ``comparative brightness compositing'' and differs from what the fireflies actually look like with the naked eye. If you have a single-lens reflex camera or mirrorless camera, you can take photos like this one with a tripod, so give it a try.

Parking: Available/Free
Note: Please be careful as it is dark under your feet in the area where the fireflies are.
Crowded: It gets crowded on weekends, so weekdays are recommended.
Tripod: Please refrain from using it when it is crowded.
Editor's note: For this shoot, I mainly used an Olympus mirrorless camera E-M5 Mark II. "Live Composite" is a convenient feature for shooting fireflies. This allows a function called ``comparative brightness compositing'' to be completed within the camera.

Up until now, many photos were taken with a tripod and combined on a computer, but with live composite, the trajectory of the fireflies' light is added just by opening the shutter. I was impressed by how convenient it was because I could check it on the monitor at the shooting location. It takes some skill to use, but I don't think it's that difficult.
