What is TheAkame48Falls?

TheAkame48Falls is the general name for the waterfalls that flow along the Takigawa River in NabariCity City, Mie Prefecture.

On the approximately 3.3km hiking course, you can see 23 waterfalls, including waterfall basins.

Along the way, you can see the scenery of each season, including cherry blossoms, fresh green leaves, autumn leaves, and snow.

Is it true that hiking trails are tough?

If you search for `` TheAkame48Falls'' on Google or Yahoo, you will sometimes see reviews that say ``It's tiring.''

There are several hiking trails around TheAkame48Falls, with the shortest trail taking 23 minutes one way and the longest trail taking 90 minutes one way.

Even on the shortest course, which takes only 23 minutes one way, you can see Fudo Falls, Senju Falls, and Nunobiki Falls of Akame Go Falls, and the slopes and stairs are gentle.

If you walk regularly, you may not find it too tiring.

What is Akame Go Falls?

The Akame Go Falls are the ``5 waterfalls that are considered to be particularly noteworthy'' among the 48 waterfalls that can be seen at TheAkame48Falls, and the characteristics of each are as follows.

Fudo Falls

Height: 15m. A waterfall named after Fudo Myoo. Approximately 230m from the valley entrance, 6 minutes walk.

Senju Falls

Height: 15m. A beautiful waterfall with a harmonious combination of waterfall, rocks, trees, and basin. Approximately 800m from the valley entrance, 20 minutes walk.

Nunobiki Falls

Height: 30m. A waterfall that falls like a strip of cloth. 900m from the valley entrance, 23 minutes walk.

Biwa Falls

Height: 15m. It is the deepest of the Akame Go Falls, and there is a waterfall basin that looks like a rock bath. 2870m from the valley entrance, 80 minutes walk.

Is there a place where I can take a break?

There are benches and pavilions along the way, so if you're feeling tired, we recommend taking a break.

There is also a spot where you can view the waterfall from the gazebo, so you can spend a pleasant time bathing in negative ions.

If you are confident in your physical strength, please walk to Biwa Falls, the deepest of the Akame Go Falls, and enjoy a spectacular waterfall tour.

About clothes and shoes

TheAkame48Falls hiking course has some rugged rocks and slippery areas, so we recommend wearing comfortable sneakers or trekking shoes.

In the summer, insects are more likely to be attracted to you, so keep a portable insect repellent handy and wear clothing that reduces exposed skin to prevent sunburn.

Where is the parking lot?

There is no free parking lot at TheAkame48Falls, but there are some paid parking lots around the valley entrance.

Prices vary depending on location and range from 500 yen to 800 yen.

Please note that during high seasons such as Saturdays, Sundays, holidays, Golden Week, and autumn leaves, the parking lot near the gorge entrance is likely to be full and traffic jams may occur.

Where are the vending machines and toilets?

Vending machines are scattered around the parking lot, and there is no place to purchase drinks once you enter the mountain.

There used to be a teahouse near Senju Falls, but it is now a gazebo.

Restrooms are located around the parking lot, and the photo is of a public restroom near Uedaya.

This public toilet is the closest to the valley entrance, so it's best to use it beforehand.

There is only one toilet on the hiking course, and it is located near the ``Hachitaiwa'' point.

Please note that there are no restrooms beyond this point, which is about a 15-minute walk from the valley entrance.

Recommended hiking course

Here we introduce recommended hiking courses categorized by required time.

Enjoy a hike through the beautiful valley of TheAkame48Falls, depending on your physical strength and destination.

[6 minutes one way] “Easy” hike to Fudo Falls

After walking for a few minutes from the parking lot near the public restroom, we arrived at the entrance of the Japanese Salamander Center!

You can enter TheAkame48Falls by paying at the ticket vending machine here or at the counter.

At the Japan Salamander Center, there are about 50 animals of nine different species on display, mainly domestic giant salamanders.

Some of them are red-eyed giant salamanders, and if you're lucky, you might even see them in the rivers and basins of TheAkame48Falls 🎵

Proceeding to the back of the first floor of the Japan Salamander Center will lead you to the starting point of the hiking course.

It was a short 6 minute walk from here to Fudo Falls, and there were no steep ups and downs, so it was easy to walk.

This is a stone staircase in front of Fudo Falls, and you can admire the waterfall from the bridge at the top.

There are handrails that make it easy to climb, but please be careful on rainy days or after the rain, as it can be slippery.

Fudo Falls is one of the waterfalls that can be admired up close and is 15 meters high.

It is characterized by a huge amount of water, so much so that you can feel the spray on your skin, and it is overwhelmingly impressive among the Akame Go Falls!

The unique charm of TheAkame48Falls Falls is that you can see the impressive waterfalls within a 6-minute walk.

[23 minutes one way] “Relaxing” hike to Senju Falls and Nunobiki Falls

It's a 23-minute walk from the valley entrance and a 17-minute walk from Fudo Falls, where you can admire the Senju Falls and Nunobiki Falls of the Akame Go Falls.

There are many concrete sidewalks along the way, and the slopes and stairs are gentle, so I think it's an easy walk.

It's also a great place to enjoy the beautiful valley scenery while walking along the river.

This is the view of Senju Falls, which is located a 14-minute walk from Fudo Falls.

The height is 15 meters, the same as Fudo Falls, and the clear basin of the waterfall spreads out.

Although it is inferior to Fudo Falls in terms of distance, the waterfall's clear basin and surrounded by rocks and trees have a picturesque beauty.

There is a gazebo near the basin of the waterfall, where you can relax while sitting on a bench under the roof.

The place used to be a teahouse, but currently there is no food or drink sales.

After walking for about 3 minutes from Senju Falls, you will arrive at Nunobiki Falls, which is also a beautiful waterfall with a vast basin.

At approximately 30m in height, it is the highest of the five Akame Falls, and is characterized by its delicate and beautiful appearance, resembling a thread of silk.

From this point onwards, there are many stairs and rocky trails with varying elevations, so this is a hiking course recommended for those with physical strength.

[60 minutes one way] “Authentic” hike to Kotaki

It takes a 60 minute walk from the valley entrance and a 40 minute walk from Nunobiki Falls to reach Kougaidaki.

Kotaki is a small waterfall with a height of 3 meters, and only the basin of the waterfall can be seen from the walking path.

This ``waterfall basin'' is attractive, and you can see it up close as it sparkles in emerald green when sunlight hits it.

This photo was taken around 1:00 PM in May, when the sunlight was just hitting the basin of the waterfall.

I stood my partner on a rocky area near the basin of the waterfall, held the camera at a low angle, and pressed the shutter, and we were able to take a photo that looked like we were standing on a stage above the water.

When I passed by around 3pm on my way back, the entire basin of the waterfall was covered in shadow, so the only time it gets sunlight is probably around 12pm to 1pm.

⚠The rocky area around the waterfall basin is slippery, so be careful where you step when walking or taking photos.

[70 minutes one way] “Spectacular” hike to Kurodan Falls

It is a 70-minute walk from the valley entrance and a 10-minute walk from Kotaki Falls to reach Nakataki Falls.

This waterfall is said to be the most beautiful of the five Akame Falls, with two waterfalls cascading down between huge rocks.

With fresh greenery in summer and beautiful autumn leaves in autumn, you can enjoy the scenery unique to each season.

It is especially popular during the autumn leaves season, and it can get crowded during the peak viewing season.

If you want to avoid the crowds, we recommend entering the mountain between 8:30 and 9:00 a.m., right after the mountain opens.

🍁 The best time to see autumn leaves is from mid-November to late November.
⚠ When using a tripod, set it up in a place where it will not obstruct traffic.

[80 minutes one way] “Unexplored” hike to Biwa Falls

Biwa Falls is an 80-minute walk from the valley entrance and a 10-minute walk from Kadan Falls.

Biwa Falls is the deepest of the Akame Go Falls and is 15 meters high.

It was named ``Biwa Falls'' because the way the waterfall flows resembles the musical instrument biwa.

Although it is less spectacular than Fudo Falls and Kabara Falls, the beautiful scenery that harmonizes with the fresh greenery and autumn leaves is attractive.

If you walk for another 20 minutes from here, you will arrive at Gankutsutaki, which is located at the innermost part of TheAkame48Falls.

If you are confident in your physical strength, please make it to the end.
