``Enshrined deity'' Michizane Sugawara ``Benefits'' Academic achievement, family safety, warding off evil spirits, good health, fulfillment of wishes, etc.
This shrine flourished as the guardian deity of TakatoraTodo under the patronage of Todo Takatora, and is where the haiku master MatsuoBasho dedicated his first work, ``Kai Ohohi,'' and prayed for his success.
Our autumn Shinko festival "Ueno Tenjin Festival" has a tradition of over 400 years and is the largest festival in Iga that colors the autumn of Iga Ueno, and has been designated as a national important intangible folk cultural property. In November 2016, it was registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.
