Camellia and sasanqua flowers bloom with gorgeous flowers during the winter.
It has been loved by Japanese people for a long time, and because it blooms from winter to spring, it is also called ``the flower that waits for spring.''
Camellia and sasanqua are both members of the Camellia family. Although they look very similar, they bloom at different times, so please enjoy the lovely flowers at their respective peak times.

The sasanqua tree in the Kayumi district, which juts out into the tea fields, is a large tree estimated to be 120 to 150 years old, about 11 meters tall, about 1.5 meters around the trunk, and with branches about 15 meters north-south and 12 meters east-west. It is a sacred kounogi for the guardian deity. It blooms beautiful pink flowers every year, and the contrast with the yellow of the ginkgo in the background is a sight to behold.

It is a pleasant space full of art, from a wide range of collections including all of Masuo Ikeda's ceramic carvings and the Heart Sutra series, to charming special exhibitions, and the 3,000-tsubo Satoyama Paramita Garden where nature and art harmonize.
In addition to Makio Yamaguchi's stone carvings, you can enjoy seasonal flowers such as camellias at the Paramita Garden from autumn to early spring.

A total of 753 types of camellia, 544 domestic and 187 foreign, and approximately 2,500 bush camellias, the city's flower, have been planted. Camellias are planted in a grove of cedar trees and bushes of camellias, leaving the natural environment untouched, and camellias are planted on moss-covered rocky slopes. We have planted varieties ranging from early-blooming varieties that start blooming in September to late-blooming varieties that can be enjoyed until around May.
