[2023] When will the Tsu Festival be held? We'll give you plenty of explanations about the history, highlights, and food stalls!

掲載日:2023.09.06

Tsu Festival is a festival with a history of over 380 years. We will provide a thorough explanation of the festival's history, highlights, venue map, food stalls, and more! (Detailed schedule of events will be updated from time to time!)

What is Tsu Festival?

The Tsu Festival is one of the largest festivals in Mie Prefecture, featuring performances of local performing arts from TsuCity such as ``Tojin Odori'' and ``Shagouma,'' as well as passionate dance performances by the Anotsu Yosakoi.

The Tsu Festival began in 1632 when Takatsugu Todo, the second lord of the Tsu domain, moved Tsu Hachiman Shrine to its current location and enshrined the spirit of TakatoraTodo, the founder of the domain.

Three years later, in 1635, Takatsugu lent funds from the domain to encourage and protect the festival, which became a huge success and is said to be the origin of the Tsu Festival.

It has continued to evolve over its 380-year history, and in 1998, the Anotsu Yosakoi festival was added, making it a large-scale festival attended by all citizens.

Introducing the highlights of the Tsu Festival

There are two main highlights of the Tsu Festival.
The first is the performance of traditional performing arts such as the Tsu Hachiman Shrine festival and a gathering of local performing arts.
The second is ``Anotsu Yosakoi,'' a dance in which citizens participate in various regions.

And it is the biggest highlight of the Tsu Festival.
[Tsu Festival Grand Parade]
Kindergarten nursery school mikoshiya dance, and more
Anotsu Yosakoi, a dance performance by a local performing arts group, will also be performed.

Other events include the `` TakatoraTodo and his vassals, the ``Citizen Dance'', in which about 900 people from companies and groups dance in a circle, and many other events. There will be plenty of exhibition booths and more.

The ``Japanese float Ano Tsumaru'', which usually attracts a lot of attention and is captained by a celebrity for a day, did not participate in the Tsu Festival in 2022 due to security precautions. In 2023, it has been decided that it will be the talent Akari Suda! The talk show will be held at the "E. Post Office Venue" around 2:50 pm.

Local performing arts

Introducing the local performing arts performed at Tsu Hachiman Shrine. From items that have been passed down since the Edo period to items that were born in the Heisei era, we want to pass on the passion of the people behind them to future generations.

Tsu Chamber of Commerce and Industry Youth Group Genkidama Taiko

During the Edo period, an epidemic was prevalent in the town of Tsu, and a ball float was made to pray for the epidemic to go away.It was protected by the people of TsuCity, Tsu city for a long time until the middle of the Showa era, but it disappeared after the war. I did.
In 1998, the youth group of the Tsu Chamber of Commerce and Industry revived the Tama float as the ``Genkidama'' in hopes of ending the ``recession,'' which has been called the plague of modern times.

Since 1999, we have also organized the Ohayashi-tai, which performs Japanese drums, and perform at various events including the Tsu Festival.

Tsushagoma Preservation Society

The shgouma began as part of the Tsu Hachiman Shrine festival in 1636.
The sight of them entering a basket horse, wearing scary masks and red wigs, dancing to conch shells, jindaiko drums, and shakujo, and running around to surprise people, is unique TsuCity.

Apparently, there are many elderly people who tell me stories about how they were surprised when they were young.

Tsu Junior Chamber Takatora Taiko, Tsu Takatora Taiko Hananotsu-kai

Takatora Taiko was founded in 1973 as a project to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the founding of the Tsu Junior Chamber Association.
Currently, the group is made up of members of the Tsu Junior Chamber Public Interest Incorporated Association and special members, and the group parades floats from Tsu Hachimangu Shrine during the Tsu Festival, performs on the JC stage, and performs at local performing arts gatherings.

It was launched in 1992 as a project to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Tsu Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The purpose of our activities is to present a ``brilliant taiko performance'' on stage. They are currently working together under the umbrella of Takatora Taiko.

Bubu Town Chinese Dance Preservation Society

The Toujin dance is a festival performance that began as a festival at Tsu Hachiman Shrine in 1636. Since then, it has been passed down to the merchant town of Bubu for over 360 years, with some interruptions due to wars.

The current form of Tojin dance, in which dancers wear masks that are said to express joy, anger, sorrow, and joy, and perform light dances, is thought to be an imitation of the diplomatic and cultural envoys of the Edo period, the Joseon Tsushin Envoys.

Tsu Folk Art Preservation Society (Yawata Lion Dance, Irie Wakahayashi)

Since its formation in 1966, the group has been working to pass on local performing arts and promote the cultural prosperity of TsuCity by participating in various local events, including the Tsu Festival.

Based on the traditional "Hachiman Shishimai" which began in 1635, and the dance music handed down in Irie Town, "Irie Wakahayashi", which was completed in the Meiji period, is a representative program, both of which are designated as intangible folk culture by TsuCity It has become a treasure.

Anotsu Yosakoi

Anotsu Yosakoi is a dance that was started in 1998 by the Tsu Junior Chamber of Commerce, and is based on Hokkaido's YOSAKOI Soran Festival and Kochi Prefecture's Yosakoi Dance.

① Dancing with a Naruko in your hand
② Including phrases for local people in the song
It is an event that anyone can participate in, regardless of age or gender, as long as they clear these two rules.

Approximately 50 teams and approximately 2,300 participants from all over the country will gather for the Tsu Festival.
