Mie once had a platform for modern Western movies.

When oil paintings began to spread in Japan, artists such as Takeji Fujishima, Takeshiro Kanokogi, and Rinsaku Akamatsu, who would go on to leave their names in modern art history, were assigned to Mie as art teachers, and each of them left their own influences and footprints here. It was not until later in life that they became known to the world as famous painters, and although they only spent a brief period of time in their twenties in Mie, it was here that they envisioned their future and cultivated the driving force to spread their wings. It was. They set out on a journey from the platform called Mie, Fujishima in Tokyo, Kanokogi in Kyoto, and Akamatsu in Osaka, where they each worked as Western-style painters, and also worked as educators and fostered the next generation in each region.
Furthermore, the youth they spent as painters coincided with the period when oil paintings, while being called ``Western paintings,'' took root as Japanese art. The period from the 1900s to the 1930s could be called the ``Youth of Western Paintings,'' and a series of works filled with vitality were produced one after another.
The Mie Prefectural Museum of Art, which opened in 1982 (Showa 57), has collected and researched modern Japanese oil paintings, called Western paintings, as one of its collection policies. We have held many exhibitions focusing on homes. The theme of this exhibition is Western paintings, which occupy an important position in the museum's collection, and we will look back at the works of Western painters with connections to Mie, as well as introduce the state of art in Mie and art education at the time. .

You can view and edit the sightseeing route (My Plan on My Page) that will take you around the selected spots.
