This camphor tree grows wild in Minamichota-cho, nago SuzukaCity, and is said to be approximately 23 meters tall and over 1,000 years old.
Surrounded by vast countryside, the tree has good visibility and can be seen from the train window of the Kintetsu Nagoya Line.
In the famous tree section of the ``Seikoku Kenbunshu'' from the Kaei era (1848-53), it says, ``Kitahorie village, Kawakami district, camphor tree, located on the west side of our village. It is called Oki Shrine, and is a shrine within the ceremony.'' It seems that the camphor tree itself was a shrine.
It was designated as a prefectural natural monument on January 11, 1963 (S38).
Additionally, in 2012, it was designated as a ``landscape important tree'' for the first time in Mie Prefecture.
