Yobuta Shrine Prayer Festival Naked Pushing Yabutajinjakinensaidaoshi
Date: February 18, 2024 (Sunday)
Held on February 18th every year.
It is said to have started in the Edo period as a way to fortune-tell for a bumper harvest, and it is said that villages where people in each village stand in a circle with their bare robes and jostle each other and push the other party to the corner of the shrine are said to have a good harvest. Nowadays, at 8pm, more than a dozen people, including parishioners and local youth sports groups, run up the stone steps to the main shrine, naked in their lower belts, and after the purification, they form a circle at the lower worship hall, chanting wasshoi wasshoi, and walk up to the main shrine. It is a Shinto ritual in which people fly around in a circle to pray for a rich harvest and the safety of their families.
Songs such as ``Let's play with a good harvest'' and ``Let's play with a safe family'' are included and are repeated many times. At the end, they head to the main shrine to pray in gratitude to the god, and then return all together.
In recent years, we have been accepting participation from the general public, and even people from nearby areas are participating.
