[June 3, 2023] Saio's Eternal Prayer The 40th Saio Festival will be held.

掲載日:2023.05.31

This year marks the 40th Saio Festival. It will be held for one day only on Saturday, June 3, 2020.

The main attraction of the festival is the ``Saio Gungyo'', which recreates the procession of the ``Saio''s group heading for Ise, which is far away from the capital. It is beautifully reproduced like a picture scroll.

In addition, there are plans for commemorative events, stage events, and other events that the whole family can enjoy together.

We would like to introduce in detail the Saio Festival, subtitled ``Saio's Prayer for Eternity'', hoping for peaceful days to come.

*Depending on weather conditions, the final decision to hold the event will be announced on the website at 7:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 3rd.

A Saio is an unmarried female member of the imperial family who is chosen to serve Amaterasu at IseJingu Grand Shrine on behalf of the Emperor.

Saio's most important role is to participate in the big festivals held three times a year at IseJingu Grand Shrine (Kannamesai in September and Tsukinamisai in June and December). In addition, he performed various rituals and events on a daily basis to fulfill his duties as Saio.

The Saio Festival includes the Saio Gungyo, the Purification Ceremony, and the Shato Ceremony, as well as stage events such as brass band performances and children's dances, as well as the Itsukinomiya Market and Saio Market, where more than 30 stores are set up.

The appearance of Saio-san wearing a beautiful junihitoe is truly solemn and beautiful, giving us a glimpse of the distant Heian period. In addition to the group parade under the early summer sky, there will be a moonlit group parade and fireworks at night this year, so look forward to these as well! Please come out with your family♪
