Chidorigase Mukunoki and Saigyo Poetry Monument
Chidorigase Mukunoki and Saigyo Poetry Monument

As soon as you enter the town of oka, you will see an old Muku tree [trunk circumference 485cm, height 17m] covering the road, with the god of protection enshrined beneath it, and a monument with a poem erected beside it. A small ``Takogawa'' flows below, and the bridge that spans it is ``Chidori Bridge.''
During the Heian period, the monk Saigyo, who was an excellent singer, came to this area on his way to visit Ise, rested, heard the chirping of the Uchikawa Plover, and composed the following poem.
-Chidorigase calls me a friend when I'm tired.
Let's cross over and sleep in oka.
At the end of the Meiji period, the people of oka named this place "Chidorigase" and erected a monument with this poem.
