Kugisaki Tree Grove is located in the central part of OwaseCity, on a slope of a sea cliff on a peninsula that juts out into the Kumanonada Sea.
Although this place usually has the image of being inhospitable, it was a forest where the people of Kuki Town lived their lives.
The coast is steeply sloped with many cliffs, and subtropical and temperate plants grow thick from the coast to about 200 meters above sea level.
The main trees include Japanese oak, Japanese oak, Ubamegashi, and Sudajii, and the Japanese sawhorn fern is the only one that grows in Honshu, and is said to be at the northern limit of its habitat.
There are remains of a fish viewing hut and a charcoal kiln, and at the tip of the trail there are the remains of the Tokenbansho, Jotojo, and Smokehouse, all of which were facilities of the Kishu clan, making it a place where you can learn about the relationship between people and the forest.
It was designated as a prefectural natural monument on October 16, 1964 (S39).
