Tochigaike Wetland Plant Community [Prefecturally Designated Natural Monument] Tochigaikeshichi Shokubu Gunraku
About 1 km from Gokatsura towards Tamaki, Tochigaike is a wetland plant community located around an agricultural water pond with an area of approximately 10 hectares.
Gardenias grow wild along the road on the south side of the pond, and it is said that at the time of the designation, there were about 1,000 gardenias.
Gardenias grow wild in warm regions west of Tokaido of Honshu, but it is rare for so many plants to grow in clusters, and they are currently being protected by local people and preservation societies.
You can also see an abundance of wetland plants in the wetlands surrounding the pond.
It was designated as a prefectural natural monument on September 12, 1963 (S38).
