My name is Mio Ieda and I am Mie Travel Ambassador.

I usually travel around Mie Prefecture as a freelance writer and photographer.

In this article, we will introduce `` AkafukuIce'' that can be eaten in the summer at ` Akafukumochi'', a restaurant famous for `` Akafukumochi Mochi'', a specialty of Ise.

In addition, we will also be reporting on the summer-only cafe menu at Isuzu Chaya next door.

There is still time to enjoy both menus, so please visit early!

"AkafukuIce" is a local summer tradition.

`` Akafukumochi'' has been in business since 1707 in Torii-mae-cho, Naiku of IseJingu Grand Shrine, and manufactures and sells `` Akafukumochi Mochi,'' a famous mochi from Ise.

"Akafukumochi" is famous nationwide as a specialty of Ise, but "AkafukuIce" (600 yen), which appears in the summer, is another specialty that many people visit just for it. .

In my hometown of Ise, when the weather gets hot, it is so well-known that people exchange conversations like, ``I've already eaten AkafukuIce this year'' and ``Well, I'm not good at it yet,'' instead of greetings, and it's a seasonal tradition.

The birth of AkafukuIce is said to have started in 1963, when it was devised for customers visiting FutamiuraBeach for sea bathing, and through repeated improvements it reached its current form.

AkafukuIce is actually not available at the main store.

It is served at a separate store in front of Akafukumochi main store, so purchase a ticket at the entrance and place your order.

Fragrant matcha ice with special strained bean paste and white mochi

The shaved ice served in a bowl is drizzled with matcha honey, lightly sweetened with strained red bean paste, and filled with soft white mochi.

In fact, this red bean paste and mochi are made exclusively for AkafukuIce so that they do not harden even in cold ice and do not lose their flavor.

The matcha honey used is a combination of specially made honey and matcha powder, giving it a rich flavor.

The smooth texture of shaved ice made from pure ice, the fragrant sweetness of matcha honey, and the melty sweet koshian and sweet, soft white mochi are summer sweets that are loved by all generations.

It comes with cold roasted green tea, so you can enjoy it until the end.

When can you eat AkafukuIce?

AkafukuIce is scheduled to be served from before the Golden Week (late April) to late September every year, so even if you haven't tried it yet this year, there's still time, so be sure to visit. (It may end in some cases.)

The recommended time is right after the store opens when there are seats available (reservations cannot be made by phone).

There are often long lines during the day, so be sure to arrive early, especially on hot days or holidays.

There are 9 stores where you can eat AkafukuIce

In addition to the store in front of the main store, AkafukuIce is available at the Naiku mae branch, Isuzugawa store, Geku store, Futami branch, Okage-yokocho Chaya in Okage Yokocho, and Akafukumochi Chaya on the EXPASA Gozaisho up line in IseCity. You can

Outside Mie Prefecture, it is also available at Matsuzakaya Nagoya and JR Nagoya Takashimaya stores, so if you live in the Hokusei region, please use those locations as well.

Summer limited cafe menu also available at Isuzu Chaya

Akafukumochi Chaya Main Store, which is adjacent to Akafuku Main Store, is known as a sweet shop where you can enjoy seasonal Japanese sweets and Western sweets such as sables and roll cakes.

The interior of the store, which is a faithful reproduction of a traditional merchant house in Ise, has a spacious atrium, and the space between the seats is wide, giving it an open feel.

The well-kept garden can be seen from the window, and you can forget about the time for a while.

It has a more relaxed atmosphere than Akafukumochi main store, so if you want to eat Akafukumochi, this is a hidden spot recommended.

I found some summer-only sweets at Isuzu Chaya Main Store and would like to introduce them to you.

Part 1 "Water Manju"

The summer-only "Mizu Manju" is now available in the "Japanese and Western sweets and drink set" (1,000 yen), which is a standard cafe menu at Isuzu Chaya main store.

``Mizu Manju'' is a summer-only sweet that has a smooth and pleasant texture and is made by wrapping strained bean paste in a transparent skin made from kudzu agar.

As for drinks, you can choose from chilled matcha (pictured above), available only in the summer, as well as warm matcha, chilled azuki tea, sencha, coffee (either hot or iced), or orange juice.

Mizumanju is also available for take-home (600 yen for 3 pieces), making it the perfect refreshing souvenir.

It will be available from late June to early September.

Part 2: “Brown sugar ice” and “Mizore ice”

You can also enjoy shaved ice in the summer at Isuzu Chaya Honten.

The ``Brown Sugar Ice'' (800 yen) is topped with brown sugar syrup made from Okinawan brown sugar, served with hon-warabi mochi made from hon-warabi powder, and brown sugar bean paste, served in a cool glass bowl. will be done.

The rich sweetness of brown sugar will energize your tired body in summer.

We also recommend the Mizore Ice (800 yen), which is shaved ice drizzled with homemade honey and served with Dainagon red beans from Hokkaido, warabi mochi, and brown sugar bean paste.

This is served in a refreshing white porcelain bowl, and combined with the whiteness of the ice, it looks cool.

All shaved ice comes with roasted green tea. For an additional 500 yen, you can get a set of your favorite drink (chilled matcha (summer only), warm matcha, chilled azuki tea, sencha, coffee (either hot or iced), or orange juice). Masu.

You can only eat and drink inside the store, you cannot take it home.

It is scheduled to be available from late May to late September.

Part 3 “Kuzukiri”

For those who want to enjoy a smooth taste, how about ``Kuzukiri'' (with roasted green tea, 1,000 yen)?

Kuzukiri is made from Yoshino-grown honkzu and is served in a chilled bowl.

It comes with brown sugar syrup, so please dip the kuzukiri in the brown sugar syrup like somen noodles and enjoy it smoothly.

Kuzukiri has a flat shape similar to kishimen, and when you eat it, it's surprisingly filling.

Even people who are tired from the summer and have no appetite can easily eat this.

Kuzukiri is only available for dine-in.

It's also nice that it's available for a longer period of time than other sweets, from early April to late October.

Heal your body tired from the heat with the sweetness of summer

We have introduced limited-time sweets that can only be eaten during the summer.

This year too, there are many extremely hot days with temperatures exceeding 35 degrees Celsius, and many people are probably feeling physically and mentally tired from the heat.

Get through the remaining days of summer with cold, sweet food that soothes your body.
