Ahhh Summer in Japan! at Jyonohama Swimming Beach & Pool

I’ve been having this love and hate relationship with summer in Japan for the past 23 years.
As the whole world knows, Japan is an island with the Sea of Japan to one side, and the North Pacific Ocean to the other, however, just like I had no clue how hot summer in Japan was, many foreigners probably don’t know either!
The high humidity makes the heat scorching, sometimes making it even unbearable to stay outdoors for too long.

Fortunately, there’s a bright side that makes summer in Japan a season to be loved and enjoyed! During summer, we have so many festivals all over Japan.
This is the season people wear yukata (it’s like a summer version of kimono) and go to a firework festival. We can drink beverages and eat food prepared only during this season! We can have barbecues by the river, and of course, go to the beach! And Mie is blessed to have so many beautiful beaches, and one of them was our today’s destination.

They made a huge reform and the facility looks great! On the 1st floor, there are lockers, showers, changing rooms, and restroom for a fee for those who come to just enjoy the beach.

And the access to the brand new swimming pool is the upper part of the facility, and that’s where we headed to.
Once the fee to the swimming pool was paid at the entrance, we had access to the upper floor facility’s lockers, changing rooms, restrooms and showers for free. With our clothes changed, it was time to have some fun!

This is a swimming pool for children which might be less than 30 cm deep with a drawing of Kihoku’s mascot, the fish Mambo (sunfish).

And just beside the children’s swimming pool, there were equipments for  children to have fun. Since we were too big to slide on the slide, we tried the bucket instead. The bucket releases water every 3 minutes so I’m pretty sure kids love to have water pouring on their heads. Parents, don’t worry, it looks like it falls hard on the heads but the pressure was aimed for children so it’s not heavy at all.

And we have an infinity pool in Mie Prefecture! Depending on the angle you’re taking the photo, it can look like this picture I took of Jon, as if the swimming pool leads straight to the ocean. So cool.

There are tables and chairs by the swimming pool, as well as this cute sofa (chair?) for you to enjoy and relax with your partner, family and even by yourself. (However, there’s a separate fee for using the sofa.)

Another resting area which is only accessible by those enjoying the swimming pool. I love this view. This is a great place to relax, sitting by the fence, sipping a cool beverage and feeling the breeze of the wind while appreciating the view of the ocean!

And the time we were all waiting for has finally come, the water adventure!!!
Marine Resort Kingdom is the company responsible for the awesome water adventure we were able to experience at Jonohama beach! There were so many activities to choose from but we only had time to do 3 of them.

First things first, life jackets in order to guarantee our safety, and we headed to the platform.

Our first ride was on the tube or towing tubes. Just like everyone else, I’ve seen it on internet but it’s one thing when you see it and a completely different thing when you experience it.

Mr. Kato, the owner of Marine Resort Kingdom was our driver, riding the jet ski and pulling us. At first, I didn’t know what to expect. He drove us around just so we could take pictures and do some recording until the real ride started. He advised us to leave everything at the plataform, cell phones, glasses but Jon decided to keep his camera since he said it was waterproof. Little did he know what was about to happen to him.

When the real ride started, WOW! IT WAS AWESOME! I had no clue about the speed but it felt like we were going really fast. Every turn Mr. Kato made, I swear I thought I was going to fall. My only thought was “Hold it tight for your dear life” between screams and laughs ... until ... Jon fell from the boat, from that moment, I couldn’t stop laughing! I still laugh so hard just by remembering the scene of Jon’s long legs going all the way up, disappearing behind us and falling into the water. We had such a great time. I can’t remember the last time I laughed this hard.

Our fun was far from being over. Our next ride was the banana boat. Another super fun ride, also, lots of laughs but I found it difficult to keep the balance. The banana boat seemed to be slippery and I was afraid to fall. I was so afraid that I did the opposite of what Mr. Kato had instructed us, I squeezed my eyes shut and just held the handles really tight without looking in the direction the jet ski was taken, but fortunately, I did not fall. Guess who fell instead?! Yup, the one and only, Jon Richards, AGAIN. Maybe it’s karma because he said he was trying to make me fall.

When we finished the banana boat ride, we made a quick rest and Jon got ready for the next activity.

It was time to enjoy the flyboard. This activity is done individually, and today, only one person could experience it.
Since Jon’s birthday was just around the corner, we let him do it, it was  like a birthday present to him.
