It once prospered as a famous temple of the southern style, along with KongoshojiTemple in Asakuma, Ise. It is said that it was originally built on the summit of Mt. Kunisuka by order of Prince Shotoku. After World War II, part of the temple was moved to Shitennoji in Osaka, and then moved to Hirao at the foot of Mt. Kunitsuka, where it remains today.
