It is said to have been founded by Dengyo Daishi Saicho in the first year of Daido (806), and the principal image is the eleven-faced Kannon.
It was destroyed in a military fire in 1574, and rebuilt in 1720 as Kannon-ji, renaming it Fumon-ji. The precincts are also famous as a cherry blossom viewing spot.
The ``Ghost Kosode'' is kept at Fumonji Temple.

Founding date: Tensho 2nd year, rebuilt in Koho 7th year
