konochi Shrine

Although it is only 2 km away from the coast of Kumano Sea, the area has a remote area-like atmosphere reminiscent of a primeval forest.
In the precincts of the shrine, which is about 7 hectares in size, as soon as you pass through the stone torii gate, there is a huge Holtonoki tree, also known as the Tree of Easy Birth, with a rock wrapped around its base, and a child is cradled in its lap. It is considered kounogi because of its similar appearance.
The object of worship at konochi Shrine is a rock wall with many water-eroded caves, and many epiphytes can be seen on the rock surface, as well as many plants growing thickly within the precincts.
It was designated as a prefectural natural monument on December 2, 1941 (S16).
