TIME TRAVEL DESTINATION IN MIE PREFECTURE

Saiku in Meiwa Town, Mie Prefecture,is a place that most foreigners don’t know about but plays an importance role in Japan’s history. After learning its history the way I saw it changed completely.

My name is Isis Akemi Muto, from Sao Paulo, Brazil. I’ve been living in Mie Prefecture, Japan, for the past 22 years. Although I have been living in Mie for a long time, I’m ashamed to say that I don’t know much about the prefecture I live in.So, recently, my husband and I started doing some day-trips around Mie.

This time, we went to "Saiku" in Meiwacho.

And after the full moon festival, our day came to an end. We really enjoyed our day in Saiku. The importance of Saiku in Japanese history fascinated me. I will for sure come back and visit the museum to learn more about Saiku’s history, and maybe, get a chance to see and wear the “juni-hitoe”, the 12 layers kimono, that only Saioh wore.

Speaking of “juni-hitoe”, here at Saiku, I tried a snack at Itsuki Chaya  that I love and (lucky me) is quite popular in Japan, the Baumkuchen, or just baum. But this is not a regular baum, it’s a special baum, it’s a baum with the image of “junihitoe” made of 12 colored layers. When I saw it, I had to try it because it’s a historical baum. I highly recommend you to try it.

If you have a chance, visit Saiku and learn its history because I think Saiku plays an important role in Japan history!
