June is the season for Mie's prefectural flower, the flower iris.

Mie Prefecture has parks where you can enjoy irises, such as KyukaPark in KuwanaCity and Kameyama Park in KameyamaCity.
There are also places where wild irises grow in large numbers, and there are many famous spots where you can enjoy colorful flowers in colors including white and purple.

We will introduce you to some spots in Mie Prefecture where you can enjoy irises and wild irises from late May through June!

saikuu irises community (Meiwa Town, MeiwaTown)

The town flower of MeiwaTown, also known as "Dondo flower". Beautiful dark purple flowers bloom from late May to early June every year.
It is rare to find them growing in large numbers on the plains, and it was designated as a national natural monument on December 16, 1936.

Flower irises of IseJingu Grand Shrine Geku Magatama Pond (IseCity)

In early summer, 14,000 irises bloom beautifully, decorating the banks of Magatama Pond.

Futami Shobu Roman Forest Flower Shobu (IseCity)

There are aquatic plants in the stream (waterway) that runs along the side, and you can also see fireflies around late June.
There is a promenade in the park, where you can spend a relaxing time while enjoying the scent of irises.
In addition, the adjacent Folklore Station Somin sells locally grown vegetables and specialty products.

Isehana Iris Garden (TsuCity)

Irises are divided into Edo, Ise, Higo, American, etc. based on the area where they were improved.
Our garden has been involved in the revival of the Ise-style irises after the war, in a small way.Since the first time at Shichiro Maeda, we currently have 500 varieties of each lineage, 250,000 plants grown in 9cm pots, 12cm pots, and 21cm pots, and 300,000 plants grown outdoors. We produce it on a scale of 1 and ship it to seed companies, etc.
During the flower blooming period in June, the garden is open to the public for free tours.

Horikawa Iris Garden flower irises (YokkaichiCity)

In addition to about 4,000 irises of 65 varieties, 100 hydrangeas are planted.
As you look at the colorful flowers from the wooden deck or walking path, the sound of the murmuring stream flowing through the park will be soothing to your ears.
You can see the colors even more vividly on rainy days as well as on sunny days.

Kameyama Park Iris Garden (KameyamaCity)

Kameyama Park was originally the location of the villa of the lord of Kameyama Castle. The approximately 4,000 square meter flower garden is home to approximately 12,000 flower irises of approximately 100 types, all of which bloom beautifully as if competing with each other.
The Hanashobu Festival is held every year, and includes events such as a sketch competition (for elementary school students and younger), a photo contest, balloon art, and vendor stalls.

Nishizawa iris community (IgaCity)

The wild irises that used to grow in the area cannot be seen due to the deterioration of their habitat, but about 2,000 of them have been planted on private land nearby and are being carefully preserved by the locals. The Japanese iris, which grows wild in the wetlands of Japan, has migrated across the ocean and is also distributed overseas, and is considered to be the original species of the Japanese iris that is currently cultivated. Every year in June, you can see the beautiful purple flowers of the Irregular iris colony all over the place, and it is a delight for those who see it.
It was designated as a prefectural natural monument on April 7, 1955 (S30).

Flower irises of Moroto Garden (KuwanaCity)

When the Moroto Garden is open to the public in spring, you can admire irises in the garden. In addition to purple irises, you can also see variegated, white, and cream-colored irises in this garden.
