TsuGyoza is a local gourmet dish that originated from school lunches and can be eaten at over 26 restaurants in TsuCity. In this article, we will introduce four recommended TsuGyoza stores, as well as the history and definition of TsuGyoza.

Mie photographer ``Fugamaru-chan'' and his partner ``Cham'' bring you information that will make you love Mie even more. This article is about TsuGyoza a local gourmet dish from TsuCity which is my hometown.

What kind of dish is TsuGyoza?

These are deep-fried dumplings wrapped in a large skin measuring 15cm in diameter, and are a local delicacy that originated as a school lunch in TsuCity, Mie Prefecture.

FugamaruWhenI was an elementary school student, there were large fried gyoza on the school lunch menu. It is said that it first appeared in school lunches around 1985 (Showa 60).

Reason for the large size of gyoza

Because this school lunch menu was created with children's nutrition and satisfaction in mind, the fried dumplings are large and have plenty of meat. It is said that the diameter was changed to 15 cm so that instead of 3 or 4 regular-sized gyoza, you only need one.

ChamuIt is said to be the most popular school lunch menu in TsuCity. I'm not from Mie Prefecture, so I was surprised to learn that large fried gyoza would be served in school lunches!

History of TsuGyoza sales

The civic group `` TsuCity Genki University'' has developed a plan to make `` TsuGyoza'', which was once a school lunch menu item, into a local delicacy, and sold ``Tsu TsuGyoza'' at the ``Tsu Festival'' in October 2008. It was a huge hit with about 400 pieces sold in two days, with people from the generation who used to eat it for school lunch saying, ``It's nostalgic,'' and people from the generation who don't know TsuGyoza saying, ``It's new!'' It became a hot topic of conversation.

FugamaruDue to the response at the Tsu Festival, commercialization began in November 2008! TsuGyoza Association was established and called on approximately 20 restaurants in the city to include TsuGyoza on their menus.

Definition of TsuGyoza

According to TsuGyoza Association, the definition is as follows.

① Use a piece of leather with a diameter of 15cm
② Must be fried gyoza

ChamuThere is no definition for the ingredients inside, and they vary depending on the store! In this article, we will also introduce the differences in ingredients depending on the store.
