"Shima Nature School" is located in Tomoyama Park in Daio-cho, ShimaCity City. We offer a variety of experiential programs that allow you to interact with nature in an environment facing Ago Bay with calm waves, which features ShimaCity 's iconic view of the Rias Coast. The most popular of these is the sea kayaking tour, which is a marine activity that even beginners can easily try. I started trying it out with my family!

What is a sea kayak tour like? The family arrived at Shima Nature School excited.
This is the first time for mom and dad to ride a kayak!
I was a little nervous to see if I could row well, but let's try it out!

First, we will register at the Shima Nature School building, then follow the car driven by the staff to the sea kayaking experience venue!
Within 5 minutes, we were at the sea kayak launch site.

Complete your preparations here before heading out to sea.
I experienced it in mid-November. Change into top and bottom clothes that are safe even if they get wet in the changing room at the departure and landing area, and get ready with your rain boots on!
The staff will also teach you how to wear a life jacket for your safety.

Water shoes/boots rental/300 yen per person *Limited quantity

Once you're ready, let's get on the sea kayak!

The staff will give you a thorough lecture on how to ride on the beach.

How to get on and off, how to hold the paddle, posture, moving forward, backing up, braking...
You will learn by actually imitating the instructor.

Even if you are not confident in your strength, such as women, you can rest assured that we will teach you tips on how to row easily.

The instructors who teach us are all friendly and reliable!
Feel free to ask questions about anything you don't understand, and they will explain things in a fun and easy-to-understand manner.

After learning how to use the paddle, let's go!
At the beach, your instructor will lead you and show you where to go.
Ago Bay is an inland sea, so there are few waves, making it ideal for sea kayaking and other sea activities.

This time I tried the kayaking 1.5 hour course.
A basic course where you can easily experience kayaking. It is popular among children, the elderly, and beginners as it can be enjoyed!
For those who want to enjoy kayaking and the scenery of Ago Bay at a leisurely pace, there is also a 3-hour course.

The best part of sea kayaking in Ago Bay is the spectacular view and sense of openness!
The blue sky and blue sea are dotted with many green islands.
Most of the trees on the island are evergreen, so you can enjoy the beautiful blue and green scenery all year round.

The family's kayak paddles between the many small ojima floating in Ago Bay.
Along the way, you'll see pearl farming rafts on the sea surface, and small boats carrying fishermen passing by...
In addition to nature, you can also get a glimpse of the way people live in the calm waters of Ago Bay.

After rowing the kayak for a while, I finally had time to enjoy the scenery around me!
``It feels so good!'' ``Are there any fish down there?'' I asked, looking into the sea with borrowed underwater glasses.

And then we arrived at a small deserted island!
If the tides and weather conditions are favorable, you can land on an uninhabited island.
Today we landed on Usagiyama Island.
You can also enjoy swimming in the sea in summer.

Park your kayak and play on the shore! Apparently you can find shellfish and freshwater crabs.
At low tide, you can even see purple sea urchins!

Mom also found a small shell! “Ah, this shellfish is moving!”

After enjoying exploring the deserted island, get back on the kayak and cruise around Ago Bay.
The paddle operations, which were difficult to coordinate at first, became easy to master in the second half!

Even beginner families were able to enjoy kayaking with a sense of adventure while fully experiencing the nature of Ago Bay!
