About Taiganji Temple

TaiganjiTempleisaJodo sect temple located in KameyamaCity, Mie Prefecture. It was founded by Gyoki Bodhisattva during the Nara period and rebuilt by Tokurensha Hon'yo Taigan Daiosho in the early Edo period.

The current main hall was rebuilt in 1851,and there is a wisteria tree within the temple grounds, so the temple is known as the "Wisteria Temple."​

It is also known that sumo wrestler Myojogaku planted a wisteria sapling here in the early Meiji period and prayed for it to bloom for a long time.

The 2024 Wisteria Festival is scheduled to take place from Thursday, April 25th to Wednesday, May 1st!​ ​It will be open every day from 9am to 5pm.

It is said that if you search for something you've lost, and stroke its forehead while making a wish, the stone statue Otayan will surely appear.

About RedHilForestofHisa Garden

Wisteria flowers have been loved by Japanese people since ancient times, and are featured in many poems in the Man'yoshu, the oldest collection of waka poetry still in existence in Japan. The22large wisteria trees in the Wisteria Garden came all the way from a garden at the foot of Mount Fuji.

Wisteria hates having its roots cut and is said to be difficult to transplant. The wisteria brought for the garden was a huge tree, and all of its roots were intricately intertwined, making it impossible to transplant it without cutting the roots.

Along the wisteria approach, which softly reflects the spring sunlight filtering through the trees, Nagasaki One-Year-Old Wisteria, Kushaku Wisteria, Black Dragon Wisteria, and Kobitan Wisteria are in full bloom.
