What is Daiosaki Lighthouse?

Daiozaki Lighthouse (Daiozaki Lighthouse) is a chalk lighthouse located in Nakiri, Daio Town, Shima ShimaCity Mie Prefecture, and is located at Cape Daio at the southeastern tip of the Shima Peninsula.

This cape, also known as Daiozaki, was feared by sailors as a difficult point on the sea where the rough waves of the Kumano Sea and the Enshu Sea collided.

The lighthouse has a long history, as it was first lit on October 5, 1927 to protect ships.

It was known as a difficult place on the sea, so much so thatFugamaru said, ``There is no place without the Shinto shrine of Ise, the armor of Kunisaki, and the Great King Nakiri.''

The current DaiosakiLighthouse has two roles: as a guidepost to protect the safety of the sea, and as a tourist spot.

One of the 16 lighthouses in the country that you can climb

Daiosaki Lighthouse is a sightseeing lighthouse that you can go inside and take a look at, and you can access the top by climbing the stairs.

The observation area at the top has a 360-degree panoramic view, and is a superb view point where you can see the cityscape of Daio Town and the sea!

On days when the waves are calm, you can see the highly transparent ocean below, and when the air is clear, you can even see Mt. Fuji!

I couldn't help but be smitten by the sight of thebeautiful blue ocean...It was a view that made you realize that the earth is round ♫

If you pay a donation of 300 yen at the lighthouse counter, you can tour the inside of the lighthouse and the observation area at the top.

Visiting hours are from 9:00 to 16:00, and there may be temporary closures depending on the weather, so please see the official website for details.

There is a museum inside the lighthouse where you can learn about the history ofChamu Daiozaki.

Below is a detailed explanation of how to get toFugamaru Lighthouse and the location of the parking lot.

Parking location

There are municipal parking lots and private parking lots around Daiozaki Lighthouse, and you can park in both for a fee.

The photo above is the city-run Daiozaki Tourist Parking Lot, which is located about a 10-minute walk from the Daiozaki Lighthouse.

Parking fee for regular cars and motorcycles is 300 yen per car per day, and parking hours are from 8:45 to 16:30.

Those arriving by Fugamarugroup bus can park here. The fare is 2,000 yen for a medium-sized bus and 3,000 yen for a large bus. Both prices are for one car per day.

How to access by bus

If you are accessing by public transportation, there is a bus stop called ``Daiosaki Todai'' near Nakiri Fishing Port.

The nearest station is Ugata Station on the Kintetsu Shima Line. From there, take the Mie Kotsu bus bound for Goza Port and get off at Daiosaki Todai.

It is about a 2-minute walk from the bus stop to the Daiozaki Kanko parking lot mentioned above.

How to get to the lighthouse

We will explain in detail the route from the Daiozaki sightseeing parking lot to the lighthouse.

First, take the road between the parking lot management office and the fishing port.

Then you will see a signboard for ``Nakiri Fishing Port'', so use this as a landmark and continue along the road.

There are several private paid parking lots along the way, and the one pictured above is one operated by the Fisheries Association.

The average price for private paid parking lots is 300 yen to 500 yen per car per day.

There are several private parking lots closer to the lighthouse than theFugamaru Daiozaki Tourist Parking Lot.

If you walk for about 5 minutes from the Daiozaki sightseeing parking lot, you will arrive at the junction between "Daiozaki Lighthouse" and "Hachiman-san Park."

It's about 5 minutes from here to the lighthouse, but it's a steep slope with an inclination of about 8 to 10 degrees.

It is difficult to move around on your own in a Fugamaruwheelchair, so it is best to have someone with you who can assist you.

We will introduceChamu Hachiman-san Park in detail in the "Surrounding Tourist Spots" section at the end of the article.

The slope leading up to the lighthouse is lined with pearl stores and shops selling seafood, and the area has a retro Showa era feel to it.

There are pearl accessories that can only be purchased here, so why not choose a souvenir or make some memories?

After climbing the slope, you will arrive at Daiosaki Lighthouse. The counter is on the right side of the lighthouse, and you can take a tour by paying a donation of 300 yen.

The public toilet is just up the slope and was newly built in 2019. There is also a multi-purpose toilet equipped with a baby seat and ostomate.

Nearest attractions

From here, we will introduce the surrounding tourist spots that you should visit together with Daiosaki Lighthouse.

Yawata-san Park

Yawata-san Park is a park that overlooks the Daiosaki Lighthouse and is located about a 3-minute walk from the lighthouse.

Inside the park, there is a Hachiman Shrine called ``Hachiman-san'' and a bronze statue of the painter, and it is in a great location with a panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean.

Here is the view of Daiosaki Lighthouse from here↓

The chalk lighthouse on the edge of the cliff and the blue sea are picturesque!

Daio Town is also known as the town of painters because many painters fell in love with this landscape.

By the way, this park is also located on the edge of a cliff. Here is a photo that shows the situation ↓

This is the view seen from the observation area of Daiozaki Lighthouse, and Nakiri Kuki Castle was once located here.

Nakiri Kuki Castle is the castle where Yoshitaka Kuki was born, and Yoshitaka Kuki was a military commander who led the Kuki Navy, which was known as the strongest navy in the Sengoku period.

The castle was built on a cape overlooking the Pacific Ocean in preparation for invasion by foreign enemies, and its location, which is typical of a navy, gives it a romantic feel.

On the stairs leading up to Yawata-san Park, there is a marker stone marking the ruins of Nakiri Kuki Castle, and this park is also called ``Nakiri Kuki Castle Ruins Observation Park.''

A manhole cover called a "Poke Lid" with Pokemon illustrations has been installed near the monument, making it a sacred place for Pokemon fans to visit.

The appeal of Daiozaki is that there are many other things to enjoy besides the lighthouse ♫

Nakiri Shrine

Near the Daiozaki Lighthouse is Nakiri Shrine, which is said to be home to the myth of a giant man called Dandarabocchi.

Dandarabocchi was a one-eyed giant that was about 10 meters tall, and was said to be a nuisance that would come to the village and cause mischief to the villagers.

Since this area was a town that suffered a lot of damage from typhoons, it is said that this myth was passed down with Dandarabocchi as the incarnation of a typhoon.

The path to Nakiri Shrine is located so that you can see the back side of Daiozaki Lighthouse, giving you a nostalgic atmosphere.

The shrine's torii gate is quite weathered, making you imagine that it has withstood many typhoons and rough waves.

If you go up the stairs at the end of the torii gate, you will find Nakiri Shrine, and it is about a 10 minute walk from the lighthouse to the shrine.

If you walk another 5 minutes from Nakiri Shrine, you'll find Sakiyama Park, which offers a panoramic view of Ise Bay, Enshu Sea, and the Pacific Ocean, so be sure to check it out as well.

If the weather is good, you can see Mt. Fuji on the far right ♫

anori Lighthouse

anori Lighthouse is a lighthouse located in anori, Ago-cho, ShimaCity, and is distinctive for its square shape.

Like Daiosaki Lighthouse, it is one of only 16 lighthouses in the country that you can climb, and there are two lighthouses in Mie Prefecture that you can climb!

It takes about 25 minutes by car from FugamaruDaiosaki Lighthouse to anori Lighthouse, so how about a driving course that takes you between the two lighthouses?

You can see the Pacific Ocean and Matoya Bay at the same time.

From the observation area of anori Lighthouse, you can see Matoya Bay, famous for oyster farming, and the Pacific Ocean at the same time.

In the photo above, the Pacific Ocean is on the left and Matoya Bay is on the right.

Both waters are highly transparent, and anori Anori Park in the center looks like an isolated island floating in the sea.

It was a moving sight that made me realize how beautiful the sea is in Mie Prefecture, where I live.

ChamuYou can enter the lighthouse by paying a donation of 300 yen at the counter at the lighthouse entrance. Admission is free for elementary school students and younger, and business hours are 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. On Saturdays and Sundays, visitors can visit until 4:30 p.m.

Stylish cafe and lawn area

The anori Anori Garden, located in front of the anori Saki Lighthouse, has a vast lawn and a ``Lighthouse Cafe'' inside the park.

At this lighthouse cafe, you can enjoy exquisite parfaits and gourmet food made with dried sweet potatoes called Kinkoimo, and it is a place that is attracting a lot of attention right now, as it has been featured on TV and in magazines.

Ueda Shoten, which operates FugamaruTodai Cafe, has its own farm in ShimaCity and is a company that produces dried potatoes called ``Kinkoimo'', which are made using the ``nikiri dried sweet potato'' method that has been passed down in this region.

This is the inside of the lighthouse cafe. It is spacious with an atrium, and the window side offers a spectacular view of the sea and lighthouse!

I think the stylish atmosphere with the warmth of wood makes it the perfect location for a date ♫

This is the ``Kinkoimo Premium Parfait'', an exquisite sweet made with luxurious dried potatoes.

The soft-serve ice cream comes with toppings such as ``Imo Chips,'' ``Kinko Imo Chocolate,'' and ``Kinko Imo no Monaka,'' making it a parfait where you can enjoy Ueda Shoten's Kinkimo to your heart's content♫

Kinkoimo is a dried sweet potato that is characterized by its soft and chewy texture, and is packed with the elegant aroma and sweetness of sweet potatoes.

ChamuYou can purchase Kinkoimo and Kinkoimo no Monaka as souvenirs at the store. I thought it would be perfect for a year-end gift or mid-year gift.

FugamaruTohouse Cafe's business hours are 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays, 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekends and holidays, and will be open all year round from April 1, 2022.

Tomoyama Park

Tomoyama Park is a park in ShimaCity that overlooks Ago Bay on the Rias Coast, and is approximately 11 minutes by car from Daiosaki Lighthouse and approximately 25 minutes by car from anori Lighthouse.

This location is surrounded by Ago Bay on three sides, so you can see Ago Bay up close from the Kirigaki Observation Deck on the premises.

The observation deck faces west, so you can see the sunset all year round, and it's also one of the best sunset spots ShimaCity ♫

After anoriFugamaru Daiosaki Lighthouse and Anorisaki Lighthouse, how about taking a course to watch the sunset here?

If you are accessing from the Chamu Ise area, you can take a route that will result in fewer backtracking if you go in the following order: anori Lighthouse → Daiosaki Lighthouse → Tomoyama Park.

We have provided you with plenty of information about the Daiosaki Lighthouse and its surrounding spots.

It is one of the few lighthouses in the country that you can climb, so if you are traveling to the Ise-Shima area, please give it a try♫

There is nothing to obstruct the view from the Fugamaruobservation area, so I was impressed by how it felt like I had the spectacular view all to myself.
